So some of you may recognize the name in the title. Heather Dale. I've known Heather for 15+ years now. I've watcher her musical career grow. Her vocal skills never fail to amaze me.
On November 11th, I was able to make it to Hamilton Ontario and enjoy Heather's Celtic Christmas show. I was also able to record the show, though I have not yet had the time to go back and listen to the audio and see if it is podcast worthy yet.
As musicians, Heather and Ben have done something amazing. They've put together a project. They're calling it the Perpetual Gift. What is it? An album of their music that they are encouraging their fans to down load, burn CDs and share with as many people as they can. Or share the music files, or send people to the web site to get the CD. So if you want to.... Perpetual Gift That's the link for the music... or you can just goto Heathers page and look around. Heather Dale
I'd love to recommend if you're in North America that you check out the upcoming tour dates and see her live. Tour Dates
It's been many years since I've seen Heather perform live, and not at an SCA event. Last time it was just Heather, her Piano and I think. She has a few new albums out that I will be getting should I make it to her show in Waterloo Ontario on December 8th. Maybe I'll record again with video!
I am a jack of all trades. I do so many things, from play many instruments, to amateur photographer, to fiber geek and I.T. Geek. But for me music has always been my first love. I hope to share my love of music here, and post about my podcast: Insomnia Radio Canada Want to be reviewed? Insomnia Radio Show 4 - Doing it ALL myself
IR Canada Show 4
Well, this week things are a bit exciting. I'm actually uploading the show myself and posting show notes myself. As well, we're trying something new this week. Bedding music, and playing creative commons music and submitting it to CC Hits!

Band: The Rosy Red
Songs: Cavin’ In, Cloud Day
http://therosyred.bandcamp.com/
http://www.facebook.com/TheRosyRed
http://www.youtube.com/user/Therosyredmusic
The Rosy Reds are four 22-23 year olds from Brantford Ontario. Real rock n roll kids just trying to stay out of trouble and play exciting music.
Brandon Rose on bass and vocals
Cliff Rutherford on drums
Jordan Reuben on lead guitar and vocals
Keith Moffat on rhythm guitar.
The songs you heard were live off the floor with no click track and over dubbed vocals. While recording cavin' part of the ceiling caved in and nearly killed us. The rest of our songs will be recorded completely live to get our real sound and vibe.
I enjoyed the older sound this group had. They were full of energy and it was hard not to get up and dance while listening to their music. I hope they keep doing exactly what they're doing now because the music is great! The image below the band shared with it. Its from when they were recording the song "Cavin' In" The roof litterally did try to cave in on them.
Band: SoundSwitch
Songs: High, Smile
http://www.soundswitchmusic.ca/
BIO:
Formed in 2006, SoundSwitch consists of friends Darren Trudeau and Rob Stewart.
They first met at the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, Canada in the mid 90's. After a promise to record together seriously after a some fun, yet promising ‘practice’ recordings in college, they lost touch.
A decade passed, when by chance, Rob, a pianist and recording engineer, and Darren a touring guitarist and singer met up again and decided once and for all to join together to record their first EP "Run" in 2010. A full length second album "Walk Into Now" was released in 2012.
SoundSwitch is a fusion of the talents that Darren and Rob each bring to the table. Darren had a long history as a touring musician, and Rob had recorded and mastered music for many artists over the years. Their juxtaposition of live performance and recording studio viewpoints brings them a unique sound.
They recorded a carefully selected group of cover tunes that reflect their most formative years (the 70’s and 80’s) as well as original songs that take on the same feel, albeit with a modern, yet retro feel. The covers are not purely "remakes". SoundSwitch seeks to breath new life into classic songs by imparting their own unique character and high production value to each piece of music they produce.
Both Rob and Darren are multi-instrumentalists, and depending on the song, it could be Darren on the drums, Rob on the acoustic guitar, or Darren on Bass and Rob on the keyboards. “Whatever feels right and whatever works for the song” is their method of operation.
And SoundSwitch supports artists across the board. Every cover that SoundSwitch produces is licenced via LimeLight.com, ensuring that the original composers and publishers of the songs continue to benefit from any future sales realised through SoundSwitch's efforts.

Ali Bartlette
Songs: Alright by Me, Lay Me Down
From Hamilton Ontario
http://www.reverbnation.com/alibartlett
les cooper contributor
Ali says: the value of music is in the creating of music because it's a mindful process that wakes me up and animates my life with clarity and balance
alright by me: is probably my favourite song because it has the most meaning attached to it for myself. Its about a broken heart before its been broken....and about the complicated parts of love. It's about that part of yourself that can't love but that is in love at the same time. and regrets and is sentimental about the present before it's even become the past.
lay me down: is just a love song. i wrote the tune in the basement of a friends house as a joke and then turned it into what it is today with much cleaned up lyrics which had been greatly influenced by my great love at the time....and the farm where we stayed.
Larissa
Song: D.T.N.A. featuring Koala-T
http://www.reverbnation.com/larissacurrah
Currently from Stratford Ontario
Larissa
Currah is a singer and musician originally from Tavistock, Ontario, but
now resides in Stratford, Ontario. At a young age, Larissa was exposed
to country music artists like Randy Travis and Shania Twain, which is
where her love affair with music began.
Larissa
started singing competitively at the age of 5 in local music festivals
and has been awarded several prizes and recognitions for her vocal
talent. Over the years, Larissa has also been involved in community theater and school productions of various musicals.
In
2000, Larissa was a semi-finalist in a local talent competition Youth
Talent Search, where she performed at the Western Fair in London,
Ontario. Larissa also auditioned for Canadian Idol at the London
auditions in 2005 at the age of six-teen.
In
2011, Larissa collaborated with GAME Records artists BC and Conway of
GAME Nation, N/A and Koala-t of D.A.B., and Nukky Grissom on the
Stratford Shakespeare Festival's award winning season song "Show Time".
The Stratford Shakespeare Festival and GAME Records were awarded a
Bronze CMA (Canadian Marketing Award) for promotion under the
Not-For-Profit, Fundraising, Public Service category.
Currently, Larissa is in the studio working on her own material set for a summer 2012 release. (delayed)----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The original plan for the show was one show a month. Why only one a month? Because this is a hobby, and for fun, and work and other things need to come first. However as I have had to put school on hold for a semester or two, I currently have a bit more free time. So, my plan of monthly shows has turned into a bi-weekly show. This will likely change again as I either find full time work or head back to the school.
On the good news side of things, I have been asked back to our local public school to help out the new music teacher. Something I had been doing (for two years) after getting my layoff from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. I was doing the job of an assistant music teacher, working mostly with the students who were learning to play flute and clarinet. I couldn't continue helping out when I started back to College, but with that being on hold it's something I'm looking forward to once again.

If you're a Canadain musica/band and would like to submit your track, I prefer MP3 and you can email them to chris at insomniaradio dot net

Pitch Perfect - spoiler alert!
So tonight a couple of friends from work treated me to movie night. We went to see Pitch Perfect. I enjoyed the movie far more than I had expected to. A Capella music, some great mash up's, and quite a bit of comedy.
They of course left it open for a second movie and if it looks even half as good as this one was I'll go see it.
They paid homage to the movie The Breakfast Club, and some of the great music from that movie. The soundtrack is good and will no doubt become part of my musical collection.
More importantly I had friends get me out of the house to do something fun after a bad week.
Would I recommend going to see this movie? You bet I would. Would I go see it again? Yes I would.
